Trust Leeds’ Christmas Market Stall

In the early hours of Saturday 20th November, Chief Executive Liza Kellett, armed with fairy lights, shoe boxes, clingfilm (a must-have for all outdoor stall holders!) and beautifully made SRG products, headed over to Leeds Artsmix Creative Arts Market to host Trust Leeds’ very own market stall!

An engaging and valuable day ensued, with the products made by our very own SRG and Be Your Own Boss SRG members being a massive hit for those looking for Christmas stocking gifts!  From Ilona’s cute Christmas earrings, to Sarah’s organic wax wraps (a particular hit for eco-conscious Leeds shoppers), to Carol’s adorable, knitted animals, Trust Leeds’ market stall had it all! Ten members from six groups
contributed merchandise.

It was cold (hot tip for any budding market stall holders: do not forget your gloves!), but Liza and new team member Kaitlin were warmed by the customers who were engaged and inspired by the SRG vision and who bought products from our spectacular SRG and Be Your Own Boss SRG groups. It was fantastic to chat to buyers, take part in some market research and test-trade products for some of our SRG members. It was also wonderful to have members visit the stall and see their products being sold in person. The market stall was a resounding success with 35 sales resulting in a turnover of over £200! In true Self-Reliant Group style (and in line with the differing benefits status of our members) profits were kindly donated to Trust Leeds. A big thank-you goes to everyone who supported us with the market stall. From
SRG members who supplied us with stock, to members who popped down for a quick visit, to the friendly and welcoming stallholders and customers, with a shoutout to Jonathan Smith of Artsmix, Trust Leeds really appreciates your support and entrepreneurship!

Liza and Kaitlin (with the help of guru experienced stall holder, and SRG Facilitator Nikki Sterling) now feel well-qualified in offering our members top tips and tricks on how to prepare for, set-up and run a market stall! It’s a good thing too because two weeks later member Shaneen planned her first test-trading market stall and she so appreciated the ‘market handbook’ that Nikki and Kaitlin had created
