This year has been a tough one for all of us. Social distancing, isolation, staying away from friends and family—these necessary but difficult measures made for a seemingly lonely summer for many of our SRG members. This is when the wonderful team members at Purple Shoots had an idea; why did traditional summer gatherings and activities have to be stopped completely, when they could easily be done virtually? Thus the SRG Virtual Village Show was born! Spanning three weeks, the Show saw huge amounts of entries from members and friends all over the UK in a wide variety of categories, including crafts, baking, pet shows, original artwork and gardening. We saw fluffy Victoria Sponges, adorable hand-knitted baby garments, photographs of handsome pets and unbelievable crafty creations. The grand total of entries from across seven regions was an impressive 280, with Leeds coming in at second place with 64 entries earning 404 points. We were thrilled for Leeds Butterflies SRG members, Bushra and Iram, who got first and second prize in the ‘Best International Dish’ category- especially as they have worked so hard over lockdown to achieve their Level 2 Food Hygiene Qualification. For the full score board and to see some winning entries in the Show, head on over to our Facebook (Trust Leeds), or our Instagram (@trustleeds). Snapshots are shown here. A massive thank you to all who got involved and a special thank you to Emma at Purple Shoots for coordinating such a successful and rewarding summer event!
